Busline Manager — Privacy Policy

Applies to the Android application com.orytel.busline_manager, published on Google Play by Oratios Choisanos.
Effective 30 July 2026. Last updated 30 July 2026.

Busline Manager does not collect, transmit or share any personal data. It has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party components that report anything. It communicates only with the on-board unit of the vehicle you are standing next to, over that vehicle's own Wi-Fi network, which is not connected to the internet.

What the app is for

Busline Manager is an operational tool for depot staff and drivers. It joins the Wi-Fi access point of a bus, reads the bus line that the vehicle's on-board unit is currently displaying, and can set a new one. It is not usable outside a vehicle: without an on-board unit in range it does nothing.

Information the app collects

None. The app does not gather personal information, does not create a profile of you, does not track you across apps or websites, and sends nothing to the publisher or to anyone else. There is no server behind this app.

Information stored on your device

The app saves the following in its own private storage, so that it does not have to be re-entered. All of it stays on the device and is never uploaded.

StoredWhy
The last bus number connected toPre-filled next time, since a driver usually keeps the same vehicle
Language choiceTo reopen in Greek or English as chosen
Wi-Fi network name prefix and passphrase for the fleetNeeded to join a vehicle's access point
Settings username, and the settings password as a salted SHA-256 hashTo restrict configuration to authorised staff. The password itself is not stored
The bus line and destination tableSo the list can be edited without reinstalling
Whether diagnostic detail is shownA troubleshooting preference

Removing the app, or clearing its storage from Android's app settings, deletes all of it permanently. There is no copy anywhere else.

Permissions, and why each is needed

PermissionReason
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION
The app does not use your location and never asks the device where it is. Android requires an app to hold a location permission before the operating system will return the list of Wi-Fi networks in range — this is a rule of the platform, not a need of this app. The permission is used solely to find the vehicle's access point. No position is read, stored or transmitted.
ACCESS_WIFI_STATE
CHANGE_WIFI_STATE
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
CHANGE_NETWORK_STATE
To list nearby access points, join the vehicle's network, and notice when that connection drops.
INTERNET Required by Android to open any network socket, including a purely local one. The app uses it to exchange messages with the on-board unit at 10.10.10.1 on the vehicle's own network. It does not contact any site or service on the internet.
WRITE_SETTINGS Declared by the open-source Wi-Fi library the app is built on, not by the app itself, and never used by it — Busline Manager contains no code that writes system settings. Android also treats this as a special permission that is only ever granted through a system screen the app never opens, so it remains inactive.

Network activity

While connected to a vehicle, the app exchanges short text messages with that vehicle's on-board unit over its local network, to read and set the bus line. Those messages contain a bus line code and nothing else. They do not leave the vehicle's network, which has no internet connection.

The app makes no other network requests. The only exception is the links on its About screen: tapping them opens your browser or email app at orytel.com, at which point your browser's own privacy terms apply.

Third parties

The app contains no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking libraries. No data is shared with anyone, because none is collected.

Children

This is a workplace tool for transport operators. It is not directed at children and is not designed or marketed for them.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and Greek data protection law you have rights over personal data held about you. Because Busline Manager processes no personal data and the publisher receives nothing from it, there is no such data to disclose, correct or erase in connection with this app. Anything the app has saved is on your device and under your control, and uninstalling removes it.

Changes to this policy

If the app's handling of data changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above changed with it. Material changes will accompany a new release of the app.
